Makeup for Dark Skin Complexion

The measuring rod for a womans beauty is her fair complexion. Though theoretically everybody agrees that not complexion, but charm is the most desirable quality of beauty, the deciding factor still is fairness of skin. A healthy, smooth and glowing skin makes a woman stunningly attractive despite her dark skin complexion. A fair complexion is prone to pimples, blackheads, spots and shadow. A tasteful makeup and choice of clothes enhance the beauty of a dark woman.

Use a liquid foundation before makeup. Select a darker shade of foundation in order to subdue the unwanted glow because a dark skin has a tendency to shine. Moreover, a lighter shade is unsuitable because the face may look patchy. If you are unable to get the correct shade, add a little distilled water in it. Rub in the lotion well so as to absorb it in skin otherwise after some time, the foundation will appear in waves on the face. Use only a little powder because a darkish complexion requires very less quantity of powder. Almond brown mascara and light tinged eye shadow are more suitable. In the choice of lipstick, go in for a shade lighter than the colour of your lips and give a light touch. Do not apply in excess. Use any lip-gloss during day time. For evening makeup, use an almond red shade on your lipstick, but avoid coffee colour shade or pink shade. For dark lips, lip-gloss is good.
Although every type of skin require proper care, but dark skin requires more moisture than a fair skin. A dark skin develops signs of ageing rather late and dark women are luckier than the fair ones because dark skin is less prone to pimples, shadows, wrinkles and blotches.

If you have a dark but dry skin, use a deep cleansing milk followed by a moisturizer at night. Wipe off with a wet cotton wool swab, after half an hour. Take a spoon full of un boiled milk and mix a little almond oil, a few drops of lemon juice and rose water in it. Apply the mixture on your face and neck daily at night. This solution is good for clearing the complexion. Use of honey is good for getting a glow on the skin.

Selection of Clothes and Jewellery

A dark woman should avoid black, blue, pink, light brown and sky blue coloured clothes. Instead you can wear orange, red, white and yellow colours dresses. If you like to wear european dresses like maxi, caftan, middy, you should use printed material.

For jewellery, go in for diamonds, platinum and silver, and avoid the ingrained designs.

Why does the colour of lipstick change on the lips?

When your lipstick changes colour or 'turns blue' on your lips, after a period of wear, it is an indication that it needs to be reapplied. This change occurs because the so called true colour of the lipstick (the colour you see in the lipstick case or on the lips immediately after application) has worn out more quickly than those components of the lipstick which are responsible for the adherence and these chemicals generally have a slight bluish tone.

Habits like biting or picking the lips intensify the problem, since they help remove the true colour even more quickly. If your lips are not dry and clean, when you are applying ¬ lipstick, the colour loss is more rapid. You would face this problem less frequently brown or brick shades, since these pigments tend to keep their colour better than pink or mauve shades.
Lipsticks seem to come off rather easily nowadays as they are less heavy and less staining than they were before. This is because they contain more waxes and emollients to give them a sheer glossy finish - something which todays costumer wants.

Remove the Lipstick

Remove the lipstick before going to bed. It is advisable to use a good quality product. Sub standard product can spoil the skin.

Lip Liner

Lip liner goes around the perimeter of your lips and is used to define them and keep lipstick in place. Lipstick clings to the lip liner and is therefore less likely to rub off. Lip liners typically come in pencil form.

Why should a Lip Lining pencil be used?

A lip lining pencil has a harder consistency than a lipstick and is used to outline the lips so as to clearly define their shape. It is a great aid, if your lips are not perfectly shaped: you can make the lips appear thinner or fuller or you can draw an uplifted comer if your lips hang. The outlining of the lips in addition, prevents bleeding of the lip product into the tiny lines that are present around the mouth, giving the lips a sharp; defined outline.

Lipsticks and your Lips

Lipsticks are the most commonly used lip make-up. They come in a variety of colours. The colour of the lipstick you use should match not only with the rest of the makeup but with your dress and with the rest of you as well. Remember pale skins would need soft colours, while darker skins can carry off the more vibrant shades

CHANGE YOUR LOOKS WITH CORRECT APPLICATION OF LIPSTICK

Lipstick can change the look of lips - broad lips can be made to look thin and thin lips can be made to look broad and shape of lips can also be moulded to some extent.
- For a Small face use light shade on lower lip and darker tinge on upper lip.

- For thin Lips, apply light shade on upper lip and dark on lower lip. This will make your lips look slightly broader. You can also make your lips look broad by increasing the outline of your lips.

- For broad lips reduce the outline considerably.

- Uneven lips can be given desired shape according to your face by making an appropriate outline.

- For thickness apply two coats.

Tips for Choosing Colour of your Lipsticks

Choose colour as per your age, the occasion and the clothes you are wearing.

- Natural shades suit the girls.

- Working women should not use bright shades while going to work.

- Young women with fair complexion between eighteen and twenty-five should use pink shades.

- Women with dark complexion between eighteen and twenty-five can use orange shade.

- Women between twenty-five and forty should go in for lighter shade.

Lipstick according to Colour of your Eyes

- For brown eyed women, pink is recommended.

- For black eyes, use light crimson.

- For blue eyes, use scarlet and subdued brown.

- For greyish eyes, use orange shade.

Lipstick According to the Colour of your Hair

- With black, orange shade will suit.

- For grey hair, use pink.

- For golden brown, use scarlet.

Lipstick As per Colour of your Dresses

- With orange shade of your dress, use pink lipstick.

- With pink dress, use crimson.

You cannot match lipstick with each dress you wear, but try to match as much as you can.
How to apply Lipstick?

Lipstick is used to beautify lips but if applied shabbily, it looks ugly.
1. Before putting on lipstick clean lips with a piece of cotton wool swab dipped in cleansing milk. Lipstick does not gives lustre if lips are not clean. Do not use soap because lips have soft skin.

2. Put on foundation cream, let it dry

3. Apply lipstick by first drawing an outline followed by filling it in. Lipstick can be applied with a brush but it requires skill and practice. If lipstick spreads on lips, apply powder on lips, let it dry and then apply lipstick. Many times it is not very comfortable to apply it while standing, because hands may shake and spread it. So, it is more comfortable to use dressing table, rest your elbows on the dressing table.
4. Put on lipstick on the upper lip, followed by lower lip. Use lighter tinge first and then darker for glow.

5. After applying light tinge, keep a tissue a tissue between your lips and wipe off extra lipstick with tissue paper.

6. Then use dark colour.

7. Blend both the colours with a brush.

8. Use of vaseline or cream gives lustre to lips after applying lipstick.

Highlight your lips with these lipsticks, lip liners and lip gloss from Revlon, Max Factor and other popular brands

Lipsticks brightens and enhances your appearance! It is the final touch to facial makeup. Lip cosmetics are now available in sticks, tubes, pencils, as liquids and in pots.
Most lipsticks consist of a fatty base to ensure that the product stays firm and solid. At the same time, efforts are made to make the product soft enough to cover the lips smoothly and with the minimum of pressure. The colour in the lipsticks is provided by pigments or by dyes. These should not fade off too quickly but should stay on the lips while you eat, drink, smoke and kiss. It is also equally important that no unsafe chemicals are used as the product is often swallowed.
Experts argue over whether you should apply lipstick or lip liner first, so the solution is that you should just try it both ways and see what turns out better on you. The makeup masters all agree on this fact though: your lipstick and lip liner should match and blend together. 'Never' apply a lip liner that is darker to your lipstick in an effort to make the lip liner stand out. That was an awful, awful '90s trend and everyone was glad to see it pass.

Even girls who don't usually wear makeup have been known to slap on some lipstick from time to time. There are lip gloss (which comes in a little pot or tube with a wand) and frost, matte and cream lipsticks (which come in the famous lipstick stick). Try out all the different kinds of lipsticks to find out the ones you are most comfortable wearing (they are all quite different in texture).

Every beauty conscious woman must be aware of the shade of lipstick to be used which should be commensurate with the shape of her face, curves of lips, complexion and her clothes. Moreover, one must take into consideration age, colour of hair. Carelessness can damage the looks. Lipstick is considered a morale booster, and is essentially helpful in giving her self-respect and self-confidence.
Best Mascara, Eye Makeup, eye Mascara, Liners, Curlers and Application Tips to Highlight your Eyes

Mascara coats the lashes, making them thick, long, lustrous and more noticeable. You can choose from 3 different forms of mascara - water-based, water-proof and the mixed variety.
Water-based mascaras can be applied quickly because they dry rapidly. They can also be removed easily, so they are gentle to the lashes and the eyes. But there are several problems with their use: because the water evaporates quickly, the lashes tend to clump together; as the film is not water-proof, the mascara smudges easily when it comes in contact with water, tears, and perspiration; because of the high water content, these products are difficult to preserve and have a short keeping life.

Because of these disadvantages of water¬based mascaras, the water-proof variety has become popular. Water-proof mascaras are generally long wearing, water-proof and smudge-proof; but they are difficult to remove and you may have to use a cosmetic cleaner to remove them. Because they take long to dry they have a tendency to smear unless you are careful. Though they colour and appear, to lengthen the lashes well, they do not thicken them much. They are however a good investment, because they are resistant to contamination and can be used even years after they have been manufactured.

The third variety of mascara is a combination of the earlier two types. These dry quickly, produce little or no smudging and are the latest in the field of mascaras.
Eye Liner - Lining the eyes - Adding Depth to your Eyes:

Eye liners, including our own indigenous kaajal are the most extensively used form of eye makeup. Liners outline the eye and are particularly attractive in deeper toning colours (to match the eye shadow)
The earlier cake type of eye liner has now been somewhat replaced by liquids and pencils. The liquid liners are sold in bottles either with a separate small brush or in an automatic unit with the brush built into the cap. The product may be either water based (when it is susceptible to wetting with water) or alcohol-based (when it is water-proof). Our own kaajal has also undergone a considerable improvement- from cake to stick and now to a pencil, which is so easy to use
Eye Make Up :: Eye Shadows :: Apply Eye Shadows
How to apply eye shadow?

The following steps are followed in the application of eye shadow shades:

Step 1 - First decide if you want to use one, two or three different eye shadow colours at once. There is no problem in using 3-4 colours, provided, they are blended well.

Step 2 - Using a fine, blunt-ended brush, gently apply the base colour eye shadow to the entire lid from the inside to the outside corner and from the base of the lashes to the eyelid crease.

Step 3 - If the eyes need extra definition, a deeper shade is blended into the crease line. This gives depth to the eyes.

Step 4 - The brow bone is highlighted with a light shade eye shadow. This gives the eyes a wide, open look.

Step 5 - The eye shadow is applied to the most prominent area and blended up towards the brow and down to where the contour curves down, toward the eyelid creases.

Eye Shadow Applying Tips

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 1: Before using eye shadows on the lids, always test the colours on the back of the hand to see the intensity. Remember, pale tones emphasize, whideep sooty shades define.

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 2: Choose a primary colour (the colour you want to stand out the most) and use short strokes to cover your whole eyelid.

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 3: The colours should get progressively lighter as they are stacked above your eyes.

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 4: Apply just enough pressure to lay the colour down without caking it onto your lids. Be especially careful not get too close to the crease or your eyebrows.

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 5: Sparingly apply a lighter eye shadow colour above your primary colour and below your eyebrow. You should be able to cover the entire area in one sweep.

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 6: To give your eyes a 'smoky' look, choose a dark blue, grey or black eye shadow and brush it around the outer corners of your eyes and blend it into your primary eyeliner. Don't stray further than a quarter inch away from your eyes.

• Loose Powder

How to Apply Makeup Powder? - Setting your Makeup

Makeup Powder is an effective beauty aid to make the skin look even soft and attractive. Powder is the last item of your makeup. It is available in two forms - cake and powder. While choosing a powder, keep in mind your complexion, and choose a shade that goes with it, otherwise the two shades, one of your complexion and the other of your powder will not match. The skin will look blotchy. Do not use cake powder, if you have an oily skin, because it contains an oily base. While using powder, be sure your locks of hair are not hanging on your face. Apply powder with a clean, cotton puff and discard the used one.

Makeup Powder does 2 things to your makeup. Firstly, it sets your makeup perfectly, giving a smooth, even finish to the complexion. Secondly, it helps to prevent the appearance of shine on the areas most prone to oiliness- the central panel. When applied correctly, your makeup will stay fresh for a longer time.
Makeup Powder can be applied over foundation to help set it, but its main purpose is to help keep your face looking fresh as the day wears on. For that reason, powder usually goes as a portable thing in every ladies bag.
Applying Powder Makeup
Step 1 - Make sure the foundation is well blended.
Step 2 - Blot the face lightly with a tissue, especially over the forehead, nose and chin.
Step 3 - Pick up the powder on the puff and press it firmly on the face, one area at a time. Don't try to smooth it on by massaging the puff over the face. Do not forget to use it on the neck.
Step 4 - Now using a soft, thick powder brush, whisk away the excess, with downward movement to stop the powder getting caught in the fine facial hair.
Step 5 - Powder gets stuck on eyebrows and eye lashes. Brush it off with an eye brow brush with an anti-clockwise movement (from the end of the eyebrow upwards).
Which Makeup Powder to use?
Fine loose translucent powders are the best, as the pressed powders tend to cake and streak. Avoid the tinted ones as these colour the face rather brightly and become grey with time on the face.

What are Foundations?

Foundations are pigmented products intended for application on the face and the neck. They colour the skin evenly and hide facial imperfections such as scars, depressions and dark and light coloured areas.

Foundations come in several forms like emulsions, creams, liquids, gels, cakes and powders - these different forms contain the same basic ingredients, but differ in texture and finish, because the components are present in different proportions.

The basic formulation of the foundation is based on colouring agents (usually derived from iron oxide or titanium oxide), a wax (which gives an even flow and smooth finish), some form of cellulose (to make the foundation thick and adherent), an emulsifier, preservatives, and usually a perfume.

Several forms of foundations are available. You must choose your foundation correctly and for this you need to know the effect of each of the forms.

Emulsions: These are packaged in tubes and are formulated for a variety of skin types ¬ for dry skins, oily skins and normal skins. They give less luster than cream or liquid foundations, but cover blemishes very well.
Creams:
These are packaged in jars. As they contain a high proportion of oils, they are particularly suitable for dry skins. These also provide a heavy cover, but give a glossy finish.
Liquids:
These are packaged in bottles and can be formulated for all skin types - so look at the label before you purchase! Along with the cake variety, they are the commonest type of foundation used. They give a light shine cover but are too light to cover any blemishes and scars.

Gels: These are packaged in squeeze tubes. They give a light, natural look and are the variety you should use if you have a blemish free normal skin.

Cakes or Sticks: These are the solid forms of foundation. Since they have a drying effect, use them on an oily skin. They give a dense matt cover and are good for covering blemishes and scars. Solid forms are popular for photographic and stage work but are too heavy for everyday use.

Powders:
The original full coverage face powders have now given way to transparent powders; these transparent powders control shine and provide oil-blotting. They are used after foundations to give a matt finish. Cake or compact powders are more heavily formulated; as they contain a certain amount of foundation, these are not the best choice for the initial powdering over foundation because they may rub the foundation off and also cause an unattractive colour build-up. They are best used for touching up during the day, when they help to reinforce coverage.

Some Best Makeup Tips which are Absolutely Free

Makeup Tip 1 : Foundation is applied with an upward motion from the chin onwards with the tips of finger.

Makeup Tip 2 : For dry skin, it is neccessary to apply glycerine with a cotton wool swab before using foundation.

Makeup Tip 3 : If your lower lip is protruding out, use dark shade lipstick in the middle of the lips and draw light outline.

Makeup Tip 4 : Do not re-touch on a stale lipstick. It does not gives shine. Nor does it look even.

Makeup Tip 5 : For oily skin a foundation cream without lanolin is useful. You can also use a vanishing cream as foundation.

Makeup Tip 6 : For oily skin 'cake' foundation is good.

Makeup Tip 7 : While choosing a face powder, take care to use the same shade or a lighter shade. Do not use a shade darker than the shade of your foundation.

Makeup Tip 8 : Foundation should be a little darker than the shade of your natural complexion.
